The Jagiellonian University is the oldest university in Poland and one of the oldest in Europe. Today, the Jagiellonian University consists of 16 faculties, where nearly 5,000 academic staff carry out research and educate almost 40,000 students and doctoral students (including 3,000 from abroad), in over 166 different fields of study. Outstanding researchers and modern infrastructure make the Jagiellonian University one of Poland's leading scientific institutions, cooperating with the largest academic centres from all over the world.
Jagiellonian University strives for excellence in both education and science. Both paths are represented by numerous international projects, including European and governmental grants, and international/inter-institutional agreements. Moreover: to support scientific excellence, the Jagiellonian University runs numerous projects and research centres. An important link between science and business and society is the Jagiellonian Centre of Innovation, a unit that supports entrepreneurs and scientists working in the field of life science.
